Gnosticism is a religious movement that combines a whole bunch of religions and basically tells the people that they are "trapped in a material world" ("Gnosticism" wikipedia.org). in order to escape the 'material world" you would have to gain knowledge of God. through what is called gnosis.
Personally i feel that Gnosticism is just like every other religion. every religion has it's own perspective on the world. their are religions that believe that the world is just a temporary place for them to stay until God comes and free them from it. some other religions believe that the world is a living HELL.
the matrix is kind of similar. they believed the real world was hell, and it really wuz. there was 2 worlds, the real world and the virtual world. the vertual world was a cover up for the real world. the agemts want to get out the vertual world and take over the real world. and every one else in the real worls want it to get better and not be a living hell.
